FINALLY is finished and currently at the printer's. It's a collection of short stories and poems. Getting them all in one place and organized was a job that took a bit longer than I had anticipated but my 'off to the printer by end of February' deadline was met. Funny thing is, I almost shouted STOP THE PRESSES after I hit send on the files.
Writing is personal, obviously, but I've spent most of my working life writing for others. This meant my connection with the topics and the voices that I created to tell the tales were not mine. I spoke for someone else. I got into their head and created what they wanted or needed. Occasionally I wrote for pleasure but writing for others took up the bulk of my time and I was happy to do it. I got paid to do it. It's called making a living and I was able to use my talent and experience to create interesting and useful pieces. It was good.
Now, I write for me and while much of it is pure fiction it all comes from within and carries a bit of me in every sentence, stanza and sound. Sharing that with others requires one to step across a line of linguistic intimacy - oh that sounds important - and I've really never had to do that before. Hence the reason I almost pulled the plug on this project at the last minute. Almost - is the key word here because I didn't and now we'll see how much of me people find in my work.
As for the new website, well, it was time.
